Overview

This year, for a 2013 theme, we decided to focus our attention on education in art. We hear so much about the benefits of keeping art in the schools because its positive effects on education. We believe the same goes for art when you proactively implement education into your practice. This summer we will be looking at dance as more than just movement, but also as a science, as culture, as history, as business, and as communication. Whether you want to dance as a hobby or as a profession, we want to step back and look at how dance is such an extraordinary tool that can help you achieve many of your goals and dreams, both inside and outside of the studio. Over the course of the summer intensives, we will be looking at ways to better a dancer's art with a full schedule of college style classes, which we call Rapture-U. Our goal is to inspire minds to create art.

Know more. Do more.

Courses

"What should I eat before a show?" "What should I include on my dance resume?" "What can I do to prepare for an audition?"

These are all questions that we, as dancers, have asked ourselves. Now, we can get some answers and some insight on the tough questions. Our trained and experienced staff will lead courses in everything from Dance History to Resume Writing. The information will be passed on to you by our extraordinary staff, who have lived, trained, and auditioned in the professional dance world. They can give you the education and insight you need so that you can do more with your art.

Essay Contest

A big part of college is writing essays… To keep with our University Theme, we decided to offer our students the option to write an essay. In return, we will be choosing our favorite essay and rewarding the writer with a full refund of their 2013 registration fees, as well as a $30 credit toward 2013 Rapture Apparel. We will also honor them at their studio showcase with a Certificate of Achievement so they can include their accomplishment on their future applications and resumes as well.

The contest will begin on June 1st, 2013. Check back for more details.

Going Greek!

College should be educational, life-changing, motivating… and a whole lot of fun! We decided, to illustrate this, by going Greek for the summer intensives. We will be breaking up the dancers into different sororities and fraternities at random during registration. Your group will be led by one of the Rapture Staff. We will be focusing on camaraderie, leadership, teamwork, creativity, work ethic, performance, improvement, and healthy competition! These are also many of the qualities that we look for when handing out scholarships (wink, wink)!!!

Sadly, there will not be any toga parties, however, the Greek Wars on the last day will hail a champion! Get your game face on, we are going Greek!

Voluteer And Win

When you list your volunteer work on your college applications, you show admission officers the value you'll bring to their campus community. Giving back to your community is valuable in itself, but helping others also offers many benefits to you. For example, it can help you learn more about yourself, your passions, and your values. Both the people you are helping and your fellow volunteers can give you new insights. No matter which group of people you're working with, you'll find that they have information and ways of looking at the world that can broaden your horizons. This is something that our staff has recognized and used in their own lives, and feel it is an important tool to pass down to the Rapture Dance Intensive students.

Since we feel so passionately here at Rapture about volunteer work, we are looking to reward our dancer's in exchange for some community service. To find out more about how you can score some free swag and some serious recognition, visit the link below for more details.
